Analysis on Strain Transfer of Fiber Optic Fabry-Perot Sensors Based on FEM Method

In this paper,we aim at analyzing the mechanism of the strain transfer of the fiber optic Fabry Perot strain sensor.One type of embedded fiber optic Fabry-Perot strain sensor is designed and analyzed.Based on the theory of elasticity,the strain transfer functions are analyzed theoretically with several assumptions.It is found that different assumption results in different transfer functions.And according to the real condition,the best assumption was selected as one of the boundary conditions in the analysis based on finite element method(FEM).The finite element model of the strain sensor structure is set up and analyzed using the software of ANSYS.The result shows that the thickness of the epoxy,the Yang’s modulus,and the Poisson’s ratio are the main factors that influence the strain transfer rate of the strain sensors.And the result of the FEM analysis has a good agreement with the theoretical analysis.Several samples of the fiber optic Fabry-Perot sensors are fabricated for the experiments to evaluate the theoretical analysis and make a contrast with the FEM analysis.A good correlation can be found among the theoretical,experimental and FEM analysis.
