Damage Detection of Spatial Truss Structure by Using Wavelet Analysis

The Fourier transform(FT)can only reflect the entire features of a certain signal in the frequency domain instead of providing any information at any time interval in the time domain.The vibrant signals cannot be decomposed in the time domain by using FT with the aims of detecting damage events.However,the wavelet transform(WT)can demonstrate the local characteristic of signal in both the time and frequency domain,which can extract minor singularity from the structural vibrant responses.Therefore,the damage detection of nodal weld joints of spatial frame structure based on WT is investigated in this study.Firstly,the signal discontinuity of dynamic responses of structural components can be observed at some nodal weld joints.Then,the vibrant signals of damaged structure can be decomposed in different frequency bands by using WT.The statistical characteristics of the concerned signal are analyzed and the damage features of signal at each frequency band are demonstrated.The sudden variations of statistical features of the concerned signal can indicate the damage time instant.Finally,the spatial frame structure of the Citizen Center in Shenzhen city is taken as example to examine the performance of the presented approach.The numerical results indicate that the presented approach can effectively detect the damage events.
