A New Method to Detect Natural frequency of Bridge Based on Connected Pipes System
Modal parameters of bridge especially natural frequencies are important to damage identification in bridge health monitoring. While traditional accelerometer or velocity sensor is not sensitive to low frequency, especially frequency below 1Hz.Measuring precision in low frequency range is not so good.To address this problem,a new method based on connected pipe system which often used to measuring displacement is introduced here.Mathematics model of liquid flow in connected pipes system is set up with hydromechanics knowledge.Natural frequency and properties of frequency response are analyzed according to differential equations. Then vibration experiment is carried out with a vibration instrument whose vibration frequency is controllable.Experimental results show that vibration signals below 5 Hz can be responded by connected pipes.A further application with connected pipes system in Si Banpo Bridge across Yangtze River is introduced. From experiment and application results we can see, connected pipes system is a potential method to detect model parameters especially natural frequency.
