Modeling of passive magnetorheological fluid dampers coupled with stay cables in cable-stayed bridges

In this present paper,experimental investigation was carried out on a stay cable model incorporated with one small size magnetorheological(MR)fluids damper.The control efficiency of the MR damper to mitigate the stay cable model vibration subjected to artificial sinusoidal excitation using semi-active control strategy and passive MR dampers was tested and compared with each other strategy.Then utilizing the measured experimental results and based on the modified Bouc-Wen model of MR dampers,modeling of passive MR dampers coupled with stay cables is developed to predict the behavior of the passive MR damper attached with flexible structures.The proposed model is validated by the numerical simulations based on the experimental data and precisely predicts the behavior of the passive MR damper attached with a flexible structure,such as a stay cable.
