Research on Cylindrical Magnetorheological Fluids Clutch
Magnetorheological effect of the MR fluids causes the viscosity and shear yield stress of the fluids to increase by application of an external magnetic field.The cylindrical MRF clutch is a device to achieve clutch by magnetorheological effect and has the property that its transmitting torque changes quickly in response to an external magnetic field.In this study,the design method of the cylindrical MR fluids clutch is investigated theoretically.The equation for the torque of cylindrical MR fluids clutch is derived to provide the theoretical foundations in design of clutch.Based on this equation,some key parameters,namely,thickness and width of MR fluid within clutch be mathematically manipulated.We also fabricate a cylindrical MR fluid clutch and conduct some experiments on transmission test rig.The efficiency diagram and the relationships of transmitting torque and key parameters are obtained.The experimental results are satisfied.
