A VOD System Based On Hybrid P2P Network

Aiming at the oversized latency of peer search and poor system scalability in the existing video on demand system, this paper proposes a hybrid architecture for video on demand called ClusterVOD in P2P environment based on tree-based overlay and mesh-based overlay. This system combines the merit of tree and mesh together. In the tree-based overlay, peers maintain system architecture and perform random seeking operation through transferring relative messages and peers exchange data with their neighbor nodes in the mesh to reduce churn caused by peers unreliability and improve systems robustness further more. Performance studies based on simulation are carried out, when the number of nodes watching the same video is in 500 to 1000, compared to HON system, ClusterVOD reduces the servers workload by 15% to30%.
