Thefireshellmodel and the“canonical GRBscenario

The Swift observation of GRB 060614,as well as the catalog analysis by Norris and Bonnell 1,opened thedoor“on a new Gamma-Ray Bursts(GRBs)classification scheme that straddles both long and short bursts2.Within the“fireshellmodel for the Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs)we define a“canonical GRBlight curve with two sharply differentcomponents:the Proper-GRB(P-GRB),emitted when the optically thick fireshell of electron-positron plasma originatingthe phenomenon reaches transparency,and the afterglow,emitted due to the collision between the remaining optically thinfireshell and the CircumBurst Medium(CBM).We here oufline our“canonical GRBscenario,Which implies three differentGRB classes:the“genuineshort GRBs,the“fakeor“disguisedshort GRBs and the other(so-called“long)GRBs.Wealso outline some implications for the theoretical interpretation of the Amati relation.
