1 Introduction The composites industry is facing a period of enormous change as it is faced with a new set of industrial priorities set by the major end users of composite structures.The most pressing and financially significant changes are emerging from the aerospace industry which at the same time as it has finally made a commitment to move into large scale use of carbon fibre composites has been simultaneously hit with a wave of new financial pressures from rising energy costs and the global credit crunch.
