Effects of Ultrasound on Structure and Properties of Polyester Fiber

The effects of ultrasound on the structure and properties of two kinds of polyester fibers, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and poly-trimethylene-terephthalate (PTT),were studied in order to establish theoretical and applying basis of ultrasound dyeing on polyester fiber. The FTIR,XRD,SEM,TGA and breaking strength analyses were applied to investigate the changes of PET and PTT fibers after ultrasound treatment. The results indicated that the chemical structure of polyester fiber was not changed after ultrasound treatment. The crystallinity of PET fiber varied from 39.7 to 38.4,while the PTT fiber changed from 36.5 to 34.3.Moreover,the warp-wise breaking strength of PET and PTT decreased by 5.5 % and 3.0 %,and the crosswise breaking strength decreased by 1.3% and 4.7%,respectively.
