Study of Shape Memory Nanofibre Nonwoven Fabrics
Polyurethane nanofibres having shape memory effect is a novel smart material.Shape memory polyurethane (SMPU) nonwoven fabrics composed of nanofibres with a diameter in a range of 200 to 400nm were successfully prepared by electro-spinning method in this work. The SEM images show that the nanofibre nonwoven fabrics have an interconnected fibrous network structures containing a lot of pores;and the cyclic tensile test shows that the obtained SMPU nonwoven fabrics exhibit good shape memory effect,i.e.,98% shape recovery and 80% shape fixity.Furthermore, the water vapor permeability (WVP) has been investigated using DMPC technique;and the results indicate that the SMPU nanofibre nonwoven fabrics have the typical WVP properties of micro-porous materials: water vapour resistance increases with the relative humidity;and the water vapour transport is lower at high relative humidity. Thus,it suggests that the SMPU nanofibre nonwoven fabric is expected to be a good candidate for the waterproof, breathable fabrics.
