A Study on Strain Sensing Behavior of Textile Structure Made by Conductive Fiber

A warp-knit fabric structure is made by stainless steel fiber or carbon fiber. The fabric resistance and strain are measured by Universal Material Tester and Agilent 34401A digital multimeter. It is observed that the resistance of fabric decreases with the increase of the strain, and shows a definite function relationship. The repetition of the carbon fabric responding for the resistance to strain is better than that of stainless steel fabric between elongation and recovery stages during one testing cycle and different cycles. It is also observed that the surface of the carbon fiber is more slippery than the stainless steel fiber by SEM,meanwhile the friction between carbon fiber yarns is lower than that of the stainless steel fiber yarns. So the strain sensing repetition of the carbon fiber fabric is better than that of the stainless steel fiber fabric.
