Drop Hammer Impact Response and Energy Absorption Capacity of Carbon-Polyester Hybrid Composite Plates

Hybrid fiber reinforced plastics is a new type of composite.Polyester fibers were mixed with carbon fibers in different proportions, the integrated 3D honeycomb structure preforms were manufactured on the reformed common 2D loom with wrapped hybrid fiber, and then were made into reinforced composites by the technology of vacuum assisted resin infusion. The drop hammer impact experiments of hybrid 3D reinforced composites were conducted and the impact energy absorption properties of the composites were analyzed. The results indicate that the composites thus manufactured have a significant hybrid effect.Comparing with samples made with pure carbon fibers, the absorbed energy will be the highest when the content of the polyester fiber is about 45%.
