Processing of Melodic Contour Measured by MEG

We studied the brain activity during recognition of contour changes in a melody by MEG.Two parent phrases having 8 ascending tones were made and three derivative phrases were constructed from each of the two.Larger responses were observed for non-monotonous changes than monotonous changes. The results indicate that melody contour is not only interval direction,it relates memorization.
