Gait Characteristics at Installation of Power Assist Knee Orthosis with Spring Mechanism
This paper proposes a power assist knee orthosis for healthy adults from the view point of a caring prevention.Our developed power assist knee orthosis simulates the muscular power by a spring and an electric actuator (DC servo motor with ball screws).A spring is a passive device;it is necessary to control the elasticity force in spring actively to give the knee joint a suitable force by the actuator.The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of the elasticity force of the spring on the walking motion by measuring accelerations of knee motion and reaction forces in the sole of a foot.In addition,we investigate the important information to determine a suitable assistive force of a knee joint based on some walking motion data.
