Tentative of Approach to Assessing Product Life Using Derivative Fitting and Gray Theory

The accelerated life test was always adopted for the long-life and high-reliability product life assessment. The least square method and direct extrapolation has been widely used in fitting accelerated model when assessing the constant-stress accelerated life test. But it could perhaps bring a great error for life assessment when the model is poor fitting or the extrapolation endpoint is far away from the test stress. The derivative fitting method and extrapolation method based on gray theory which were using in the assessing the constant-stress accelerated life lest was researched, the former of which was used to fit both the test data and the model derivative well and let the development trend of the model curve be well described, the latter of which could let the extrapolation result more reasonable than the direct extrapolation. The two methods would both help to improve the precision of life assessment. Finally, an example was given to compare and analyze several different fitting methods and extrapolation methods, which proved that the proposed approach was valuable for engineering applications.
