Experimental Study on the Rehydration of Lyophilized Human Platelets

Freeze-drying is an ideal alternative for long-term preservation of platelets in blood banks. In this paper,prehydration time,rehydration temperature and rehydration solution were considered for studying the rehydration of freeze-dried human platelets.Three prehydration time, Oh, 1.5h and 3.5h and two rehydration solution, platelet-poor plasma and phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) were investigated.It is found that prehydration is beneficial and 1.5h prehydration time is better than 3.5h; platelet-poor plasma is better than PBS. These results will be helpful for further study on freeze-drying of mammalian cells.
