Performance Evaluation of a Solar Energy Water Heater in Conjunction with Air Source Heat Pump

In order to extend the annual operation time of solar energy water heating system, a solar energy water heater in conjunction with air source heat pump (SEWH-ASHP) is designed. In the SEWHASHP,the solar energy water heater incorporates with the heat pump through a hot water storage tank.Based on the component design and system matching, a flat-plate solar energy water heater with 320m2 collector areas in conjunction with four air source heat pump units was built for practical applications in Kunming, Yunnan Province of China. For the SEWH-ASHP, the solar collectors can provide about 81% heat loads during the entire year.The COP(coefficient of performance) of the air source heat pump units varies within the range of 2.5-3.3 during the coldest month,January, with a monthly average temperature 7.2℃.
