Experimental Study on the Cooling Operation Characteristics of a Closed Loop Vertical Ground-coupled Heat Pump System

In order to investigate the cooling performance characteristics of a GCHP in Nanjing district, an experimental work is performed in a solar-geothermal multifunctional heat pump experiment system installed in Southeast University, which is the first time in Nanjing of China at the university level. The experiment on the startup and intermittent operative characteristics of the GCHP in cooling mode was conducted from 28 June to 25 August 2006.Based on the measurements, the startup period for the GCHP is about 8-10h, and the release heat flux per unit buried coil length and the mean heat transfer coefficient between the buried coil and far field soil is about 45-50W/m and 3.5W/(m·℃) respectively. Moreover, the intermittent operation mode can minify the increasing rate of ground temperature and entering fluid temperature of heat pump, and thus can increase the heat transfer capacity per unit buried coil length and enhance utilization efficiency of geothermal energy.
