Exergy Analyses of a Machine Tool Cooler System Using Eco-friendly Refrigerants
The machine coolers are the best managers of coolant temperature in avoiding the deviation of spindle centerline for machine tools. However, the machine coolers are facing the compressed schedule to phase out the HCFC refrigerant. Therefore, it is essential to use eco-friendly (ODP=0)refrigerants to replace HCFC refrigerant. In this study, both the first law efficiency and second law efficiency of the machine tool cooler system have been studied comprehensively. The exergy destruction rate of each component and the parametric study of overall system have been investigated thoroughly. The results present that the best performances in terms of COP and exergy efficiency are obtainable using HCFC22 in comparison with its alternatives (HFCA07C and HFCA10A). The compressor and the heat exchanger must be optimized after retrofitting because of their higher exergy destruction rate consequently.
