Measurement and Analysis of Indoor Thermal Environment in Cabins of a Chinese Vessel

Crews health is strongly affected by cabins thermal environment. This paper focuses on the field measurement and evaluation of the indoor thermal environment in air-conditioned cabins. PMV were calculated based on field environmental data, metabolic rate and criteria of clothing and activities. Questionnaires were collected in this study to evaluate the subjective perception in a specific cabin environment. The investigation was aimed to find the difference between thermal sensation vote (TSV) and predicted mean vote (PMV) within cabin environment. Metabolism rate and thermal resistance of clothing were reasonably modified in order to minimize this kind of difference and to calculate PMV more accurately. The relationship has been set up between TSV and PMV.
