Theoretical and Experimental Thermal Performances Studies of a Non-vacuum Flexible Muitilayer Insulation for an Environment Simulation System
A non-vacuum flexible multilayer insulation (FMLI) using in a volume-transformable environment simulation system is designed. The combined radiation and conduction heat transfer of this FMLI system were investigated with numerical and experimental methods, The numerical calculation model of different sewn seam sections of the FMLI have been presented according to thermal resistance analyses on the non-vacuum operation condition. A steady-state liquid nitrogen boil-off method is used to characterize the thermal performance. Comparison between the numerical and experimental results in this paper shows that the heat transfer models are feasible to be applied in this FMLI. This study on the performance of the FMLI will present active instruction to improve the insulation performance and accomplish design of the similar multilayer insulation material (MLI) with atmospheric pressure.
