Study on Cases of Elevator Evacuation during High-rise Building Fires
Along with the rapid development of urbanization in China, the population in cities is getting more and more, also the numbers of high-rise buildings. The problems about how to evacuate occupants from these high-rise buildings are becoming more and more highlighted. The stairways evacuation is recommended in high-rise buildings but this way will take a long time. There are number of elevators used in high-rise buildings which have an advantage of upright transportation. The studies about how to use the elevators in high-rise buildings are becoming more and hotter in international fire science related research fields after 911. Actually there already were many occupants who evacuated by elevators safely and successfully in many fire cases. In this paper, a high-rise residential building fire was used as an example and the ELVAC elevator evacuation model and SIMULEX stairway evacuation model were adopted, the influences of the number of elevators and the distribution of occupants on the elevator evacuation were analyzed. The results show that the mixture evacuation style by stairways and elevators will decrease the evacuation time effectively.
