Study of Human Factors in Vertical Evacuation
Currently there are a lot of research efforts put in building codes and standards for evacuation by several standardization organizations. Most of the research concentrates on fire evacuation. Recently simulation models for the evacuation of one or two floor buildings have been developed to include human behavior. However, research on vertical evacuation has been practically ignored and more research concerning vertical evacuation is needed. In this article, we will shortly review current research activities on simulation models and proposed evacuation practices. We discuss about human behavior in vertical evacuation. We make simulation studies about building evacuation using stairs and elevators.
