Rethinking Fast Handover in Mobile IPv6 Networks with Enhanced DAR
We investigate existing mobile IPv6 scheme in network layer (e.g.,FMIPv6) and in transport layer (e.g.,mSCTP) again. We find that FMIPv6 easily causes packet forwarding process of Access Routers (ARs),buffering overhead,a few handover signaling costs and latencies. We also find that mSCTP can make the Mobile Client (MC) change its IP address dyanmically without connectionles, but its handover latency and signaling cost can be further reduced and faulte tolernace of MC is neglected. Based on this, first,we make a potential change to mSCTP and propose a scheme named Enhanced DAR FMIPv6 (EDAR-FMIPv6) to further reduce handover latency and promote faulte tolernace for MC in mobile IPv6 networks. The result of evaluation shows that the performance of EDAR-FMIPv6 outperforms others.
