Development of transgenic sweetpotato with functional feed materials
To develop transgenic sweetpotato plants producing functional feed materials,we have constructed the various plant expression vectors harboring porcine epidemic diarrhea virus(PEDV) spike protein gene, levansucrase(levU) gene, and phytase gene, and generated the transgenic sweetpotato plants via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. The PEDV gene insertion in transgenic sweetpotato plants was confirmed by PCR and Southern blot analysis.RT-PCR analysis revealed that PEDV transcript was highly expressed in transgenic plants. In addition,we are currently generating transgenic plants expressing levU and phytase gene and the characterization of these plants is under study.
