Construction of cDNA library of sweetpotato storage roots and molecular cloning of stem nematode resistance related genes
Sweetpotato stem nematode disease is one of the most devastating pest of sweetpotato of China caused by potato rot nematode(Ditylenchus destructor)(Lin,1999).Likewise,High male sterility,incompatibility and the hexaploid nature of sweetpotato have resulted in very limited improvement of this plant and it also takes a long time to introgress the resistant gene into the hexaploid genome of sweetpotato by conventional breeding methods.Therefore,Biotechnology offers great potential for improving the diseases or pests resistance and nutritional quality of sweetpotato.
