The accumulation and regulation of starch and the related enzyme activity during the thickening period of sweetpotato

A field trial was conducted to investigate the changes of the activity of ADPG Ppase and UDPG Ppase and the concentration of ADPG and UDPG during formation and thickening of tuberous roots in variety(Xushu 18)of sweetpotato(Ipomoeo batatas L)and the effect of the detoxification and choline chloride treatment. The present results suggested that the activity of ADPG Ppase and UDPG Ppase and the concentration of ADPG and UDPG in tuberous root of sweetpotato during the thickening period was correlated positively with the dry matter concentration and starch content and correlated negatively with the expansion rate of tuberous root. The activity of ADPG PPase and UDPG Ppase in tuberous root was lower than that in fibres root, while the concentration of ADPG and UDPG in tuberous root and fibres root had no significant difference. The activity of ADPG Ppase and UDPG PPase and the concentration of ADPG and UDPG in different size tuberous toot of sweetpotato changed significantly. The activity of ADPG Ppase and UDPG PPase and the concentration of ADPG and UDPG in middle size tuberous root of var.Xushu 18 was generally lower than that in large and small size tuberous root. The detoxification and choline chloride treatment increased the ADPG PPase and UDPG PPase activity of var.Xushu 18 during the fasting and later thickening period, and the two treatment increased the ADPG and UDPG concentration of tuberous root in varying degrees.
