Rapid evaluation method for low temperature tolerance of sweetpotato lines

To breed low temperature tolerant sweetpotato lines,we developed evaluation methods in water culture and in soil culture in green house.To evaluate the tolerance in water culture,it was better to set the temperature to 10 degree centigrade.In soil culture,it was better to control the soil temperature to 17(or 14)degree centigrade than to 10 degree because almost all the vines died at 10 degree.It was possible to evaluate the tolerance of tens of varieties/lines in only 3 weeks by these methods.The selected line“00LT01LS3showed higher tolerance than the tolerant Iine“S1-14which had been selected in field trials.
