Rate-Distortion Optimized Frame Dropping Based on Dynamic Frame Concealment

In most existing rate-distortion optimized frame dropping schemes,the concealment dependencies among frames are presumed,which artificially prioritizes frames with a fixed pattern. However,a fixed frame concealment pattern cannot always meet the actual priorities among frames. In this paper,we propose a novel rate-distortion optimized video frame dropping scheme,where the frame concealment pattern is dynamically determined according to the side information sent along with video data. The output of the proposed frame dropping scheme contains not only an optimal frame dropping pattern,but also a frame concealment pattern. Simulation results show that the quality of the reconstructed video in the receiver is greatly improved by the frame concealment pattern for the dropped frames,at the cost of a little overhead in side information.
