Food supply chains in developed countries and livestock production systems
1.Food will become increasingly linked with identity because competition for food will increase due to population growth, increases in affluence, and constraints on livestock production systems.2.Food markets will become increasingly fragmented and diverse offering livestock producers opportunities to grow their businesses.3.Livestock producers will need to adapt their systems so that they can be responsive to consumer requirements such as specific tastes or flavours, or specific health functions while maintaining environmental and economic resilience.4.Producers will need to become more closely engaged with consumers either through close alignment with processors and retailers or through direct sales ; producers must consider consumption.
