Modeling forage yield losses for crop insurance in eastern Canada
In northern climates, forage production is affected not only by climatic conditions during the growing season but also by the previous winter and spring conditions. In the province of Quebec, Canada, the dairy industry is predominant and on‐farm forage production occupies more than half of the farmland. For the last 30 years, the government has been involved in a crop insurance program for forages, which is considered essential to maintain a viable forage and dairy industry.
