Germination of five perennial rhizome grasses (poaceae) in response to Na2 CO3 stress

The Songnen plain of China is one of the three largest areas of sodic soil in the world with 233.3 × 104 ha of sodic soil in which 90% of the salts in the surface soil are Na2 CO3 and NaHCO3.So far, few studies have focussed on the characteristics of the responses in seed germination to such stress. The main aim of this investigation is to study the seed germination responses of five drought‐tolerant perennial rhizome grasses (Elymus junceus, Festuca arundinacea, A gropygron elongatum, Leymus chinensis and Festuca rubra) to variation in alkalinity.
