Growth response of alfalfa cultivars and change in soil nutrient availability by lime application in acid soils
Alfalfa (Medicago sativ a) is suited edaphically to the northern China with soil pH levels from 6.5 to 7.5.Its potential distribution may be limited in the southern China, partly because of the preponderance of acid soils ( Meng et al,2004).Selecting tolerant alfalfa cultivars and lime application are the two main strategies in planting alfalfa in acid soils (Brauer et al,2002). The objective of this study was to assess the variation in acidity tolerance of alfalfa cultivars and their relationships with soil available P,exchangeable Al and pH level.
