Identification of genomic components among species of genus Zea by multi‐color GISH
The Zea species have 2n=20 except Z.perennis which has n=40.The 2n=20 species have been considered as diploid species and the 2n=40 species,Z.perennis,an autotetraploid. However, different hypothesis had been reported suggesting that in 2n=20 species, was base on x =5 with based on meiotic observation of the species and interspecific hybrids. The development of genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) has provided alternative tools for the directly identification of genomic relationships and genome discrimination in polyploidy plant.
