Evaluating turfgrass color using hyperspectral vegetation indices

Color is a major component of aesthetic quality of turf and often evaluated in field studies ( Beard, 1973 ).Reflectance measurements (Birth and McVey, 1968) and hyperspectral indices analysis may provide an improved and objective method to quantify turf color.The objective of this research was to determine if reflectance at particular wavelengths or ratios of these wavelengths may accurately be used to describe turf qualitative characteristics.A second objective was to compare visual ratings with hyperspectral indices for evaluating turfgrass color.
