Opening statement

Your Excellency, Mr Xue Liang, Chief Economist, Ministry of Agriculture,Distinguished Representatives and Participants,Ladies and Gentlemen, Colleagues, For the first time the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Department together with theFISH INFONetwork has taken the initiative to cover the topic of aquaculture trade in an international conference foreseen to bring the perspectives of industry, governments,science, consumers, retailers and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) together. It is a pleasure for me, as the Assistant Director-General of the Fisheries and AquacultureDepartment, to extend to you all a warm welcome to this Global Conference on Trade in Aauaculture, on behalf of the Director-General of FAO, Dr lacques Diouf.
