Venturing with Business Models
Business Modelhas been fashioned in business literature in the past decade. But, it is not used as much in strategic planning or new venture development, but used as after thought in business plans. Definitions and conceptualization of business models in the literature have been varied, vague and inconsistent. Business model here is defined as a set of two things in an organization, a value chain and an economic model. The value chain demonstrates how distinctly value is generated through a chain of activities for the customer, while an economic model shows how revenues and costs end up specifically to net income for the firm, distinctly from the customer. A business models must be unique, effective, efficient, and sustainable. The entrepreneurs must translate their ideas into viable business models with strong profit engine to ramp up the initial required investment and create a sustainable competitive advantage.
