Safety Assessment for Solid Rocket Motor Detonation

A blast tragedy may happen when a solid rocket motor loading with NEPE high energy composite propellant crashed or was heated. So it is necessary to give evaluation to the explosion hazards caused by rocket motor exploding. In this paper, analytical method was used to calculate the detonation velocity and pressure of the high energy solid propellant. The overpressure of shock wave, size and shapes of fragment produced during motor exploding, and fragment velocity were predicted by theory calculation. The safety distances were given according to the calculation results.
