Applied Research of Coal Ignition Burner by High Temperature Air in 200MWe Utility Boiler

A new technique of coal ignition by high-temperature air was used to stabilize the combustion, as well as to ignite pulverized coal (PC) when the boiler start up, which was beneficial to save oil and improve the safety of boilers. In this paper, the experimental burner system was built in the proportion of 1:1 according to practical requirements ofa 200MWe utility boiler. Experiments and numerical simulation were carried out to recognize the exact flow and combustion characteristics in the coat ignition burner. Several important factors influencing the ignition of PC were analyzed, which were PC concentration, the inlet velocity of primary air flow, the velocity of high temperature air and PC fineness. The simulation results were in accordance with the experimental data. Based on the research, the burners were installed on the 200MWe utility boiler. The ignition was successful and the combustion was stable during the boiler start-up. It is believed that the results can be helpful to the optimization design and the application of the coal ignition burner.
