Experimental Study on Temperature Field Variation of a New Embankment Structure with Riprap Slope Protection of Qinghai-Tibet Railway
This paper describes an experimental study on temperature field variation of a new kind of embankment structure with riprap protection done in permafrost regions of Qinghai-Tibet railway. The experiment aims to reduce the temperature change inside railway embankments built in a permafrost area to minimize the embankment settlement. Test results.show that the embankment with riprap protection have better performance in stabilizing ground temperature and raising maximum thawing depth as compared with ordinary embankments without riprap coverage in a high-temperature and tme-grained permafrost region. This study concludes that the embankment structure with fiprap protection was a kind of positive permafrost protection treasure for its effectively decreasing ground temperature. And it is convenient in use not only for railway construction but also for future maintenance.
