Study on Permitted Height of Gravity Center of Railway Loaded Vehicle Based on Safety Criteria of Derailment Coefficient

Permitted height of gravity center of loaded vehicle is one of basic railway technical standards. The permitted height is 2000ram which originated from Manchuria railway in 1930s and lack of theoretical basis. The paper analyzes the forces acting on vehicle under critical derailment condition and presents the model of derailment coefficient and height of gravity center of loaded vehicle. Also the most unfavorable combination of directions of lateral forces on straight lines and on curves which can give rise to vehicle derailment is determined. Relation between derailment coefficient and height of gravity center of loaded vehicle is calculated under four loading conditions and three running conditions. According the calculation results, permitted height of gravity center of loaded vehicle can be enhanced to 2207mm, which is important both to guaranteeing safety of railway freight transportation and to fully utilizing railway transportation capacity.
