Analysis of Surface Roughness on Aircraft Icing Accretion

The formation and effect of surface roughness on ice accretion were introduced briefly first in this paper. The model of convective heat transfer coefficient was set up with surface roughness considered, and then the flow field and the convective heat-transfer coefficient distribution were calculated for the surface with a single roughness element. An integral boundary layer solution was developed to account for surface roughness in the calculation of the convective heat transfer coefficient for a 2D airfoil. At last the ice shape simulation was carried in the smooth and roughness surface respectively. The results showed that the convective heat-transfer enhanced very well and the ice accretion was affected evidently due to surface roughness in the leading edge.
