Lessons Learned from Scrap-Metal Fires and Accidents during Transportation
Recently scrap metal fires and explosions occurred often during the transportation in and around Japan. Mostly they occurred during transportation by ships, and it is very difficult to extinguish it. Some fires and explosions were investigated by us, and we found causes of the fires using the TG-DTA, Super CRC and fall hammer test. Some of fires were related with automobile batteries, leaking sulfuric acid or other reason. We ate afraid that coin-type lithium battery was also related with cause of fires. We should be care about these recycling materials. And we need proper extinguisher to develop against such fires.
