Application of Multiwavelet Threshold Function In Broken Wires Signals of Wire Ropes Detection

The drop of safety performance of wire ropes is mainly caused by broken wires. But broken wires signals are too weak to be detectad. On the basis of introduction of multiwavelet theory and analysis of existing problems of traditional multiwavelet threshold functions, a novel multiwavelet threshold function was proposed and its mathematical characteristics were discussed in detail. It adopts slowly variation compression strategy to the wavelet coefficient which is greater than the threshold, the compression amount decreases as the wavelet coefficient increases. The improved function was applied to noise reduction of broken wires signal, and its effect was compared with traditional multiwavelet threshold function. Experiment results indicate that, by using this threshold function, the reconstructed broken wires signal has a high Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR), and all the small broken wires signal can be detected, thus prove the validity and superiority of the function
