Deformation Mechanism and Control Technique of Underground Chambers in Extremely Thick Red Beds in Large Structural Areas

Few studies of red bed and soft rock tunnel supporting in Chinese coal mines have been made. Many chamber groups arranged in red beds were damaged and rehabilitated. Especially with the coal mining depth increasing by approx 10m/a, more and more coal mines are entering the deep shaft mining stage. Deep rock is characterized by soft rock. The deformation control of the wallrock of soft rock supporting tunnels is an increasingly serious difficulty with which we are being confronted. The deformation mechanism of soft rock chamber groups in red beds is studied in this subject, and simulation calculation of supporting design is performed. The academic viewpoint of deformation contro|, i.e., soft excavation--graded and zoned supporting of key parts --full sealing, has been presented. The viewpoint conforms to the 4D (space and time) motion characteristics of wallrock, and good supporting effect has been obtained during engineering applications.
