Prediction of Burning Rates for Large-Scale Oil Tank Fires
Based on the burning characteristics ofoil tank fires and the energy balance of heat feedback on the oil surface, a global model was presented by calculating the average flame temperature using the chemical engineering thermodynamic method. The model is semi-empirical and the data obtained from the experiment in small diameter were used to calculate iteratively the burning rates for various size tanks. The gasoline was calculated as an example and the solutions are in agreement with the experimental data well. The results in this paper are the premise to predict the heat radiation around the tank and can guide the determination of flrefighting tactics and the fire prevention plan for tank farm.
