Evaluation Test Method of Various Solid Biomass Fuels
Various solid biomass fuels are tested with new test method, which ate developed because of global warming and higher crude oil price. These developments ignore sometimes their intrinsic danger causing a fire. In Japan, a major explosion in a RDF (refuse derived fuel) storage tank occurred in 2003. In order to avoid such tragedy, we are proposing a new test method to evaluate solid biomass fuel which is under developing situation. In our method high sensitive calorimeter, C80, TAM-3 or MS80, are mostly used in order to find very small heat flux at about 40-60℃, which sometimes made with fermentation by micro-organism. This kind of heat generation changes to a trigger of the real fire. Data are compared with coal, and/or RDF. When water is added to sample, heat generation increases. Gas generation measured with gas-chromatograph is also important. Advantages of this test method are (1) Sample amount is small, less than 50 g totally, (2) Measurement is easy, (3) Repeatability is high.
