Large Eddy Simulation of Fire Smoke Diffusion in Subway Tunnel

A mathematical model has been built and Large Eddy Simulation (LES) is adopted to predict smoke movement in the tunnel between the Ji-Shuitan and Gu-Lou subway stations. This tunnel is a representative subway tunnel between two stations in the loop line of Beijing Subway Systems. The smoke species mass concentration distributions at different heights, smoke horizontal movement distance, spreading velocity under different operating schemes of tunnel exhaust fan are predicted. The smoke exhausted effects of tunnel ventilation fan arc testified. The results show that the existed smoke exhaust system could reach the critical tunnel ventilation velocity under 5MW fire condition and smoke layer could be kept at a safety height for passengers evacuation. The simulated results can be taken as reference for the tunnel reconstruction and establishing passenger evacuation scheme.
