Large Eddy Simulation of Wall Fire Behavior
Wall fires have some different behavior from other fires An enclosure with a vertical flat burner opposite the compartment aperture was simulated in this paper using Large Eddy simulation method. The simulation results show that different wall rue behavior is observed in naturally ventilated and vitiated atmospheres. In ventilated atmosphere, the steady flame spread along the vertical burner surface. The more the fire source heat release the more intense flame. The simulation results agree with experimental results well. Whereas in vitiated atmosphere, a vertical ghosting flame leaves the burner surface and travels flatly in the enclosure to the aperture. The temperature-time variation curves predicted by simulation have the same trend with that of experiments. Finally, the ghosting flame is observed well in the simulation.
