Study on Three-dimensional Large Eddy Simulation during Train Fire

The train fire has been greatly focused by fire researchers all over the world, the key to which is to study smoke flow. The three-dimensional large eddy simulation model is set up to analyze the velocity, concentration and temperature of smoke flow during the running train carriage fire. The concentration and temperature are very high near the fire in the closed space, and the spreading speed is slow while the smoke flow is far away from the fire. Meanwhile, the spreading speed of smoke flow will be accelerated when the doors are open. Moreover, the smoke temperature and concentration near the fire will be decreased. Due to buoyant plume and ceiling jet, the concentration near the ceiling and chairs are so high that the smoke will stay long, which is not suitable for pedestrian evacuation. The simulation results show that the fire should be extinguished at the initial stage. After being developed because of the pouring of fresh air, the smoke concentration and the temporary ventilation should be controlled in order to protect passengers safety as far as possible.
